Rachel and Caseys Courthouse wedding May 18, 2012

Casey and Rachel's love story, as told by Casey for our 2012 Most romantic couple contest.

I still remember it like it was yesterday, I was fifteen years old, spending the evening where I spent the majority of my time in my father’s Tae Kwon Do studio. I lived for training, hated teaching, but it was a necessary evil to teach for an hour before I got my time to train. The night was normal as could be, I ran our kids through warm ups then sent them to get water exactly as I did every night, looking at the clock seemingly after every stretch or push-up.
“Hey Case!” My dad shouted from across the room. I can’t even begin to imagine what sort of look I had on my face, I don’t even want to know, and I just hope she didn’t see it. My dad could have kicked me in the side of the head and I think it would have less of an impact.
There stood the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my life, encouraging her shy little brother to come and give this martial arts thing a try. I’m an extremely confident(some use other words to describe it) individual, but in that moment I was smack dab in the unfamiliar territory I like to refer to as “flabbergasted.” I immediately straightened out my uniform, which was wrinkled and undoubtedly smelt like sweat. “Do I stink like sweat?” I asked my friend Matt before making my way across the room. Of course I smelt like sweat, it was Friday and I maayyybbeee washed my uniform once a week. He just looked at me funny, lending no ease to my state of confusion.
I managed to make my way over to them, but not without tripping of course. The beginner’s class was my duty, so welcoming new students was part of the job. I introduced myself, probably about as awkward as I could have possibly done it, and shuffled shy little brother into my line-up of students, all the while trying to look at macho as could be. I couldn’t even manage a glance from her, maybe I just missed it, but as hard as I tried I couldn’t even garner any eye contact.
After what seemed like forever, class was finally over. I was clearly a mess, which my father took full advantage of, capitalizing on the opportunity embarrass me even further. “I suggest everybody spar with Casey today, take advantage because his mind is clearly elsewhere,” he opened up our advanced class with. He was right; she had left, without any semblance of flirtation, which of course sent shockwaves through my fragile, fifteen year old ego.
Twelve years later, by chance Rachel and I came across each other again. She now had a son, four year old Zachary, and asked if I knew anybody that taught martial arts. Still as smitten at twenty-seven as I was at fifteen, I immediately set up an appointment with a good friend of mine that teaches in Orland. I was nervous, not only was I seeing her again, but now I was meeting her son. What in the world would I do with a four year old kid?
It took me about as long as it did to fall in love with Zach as it did to fall in love with her. It was instantaneous, after the first hour of us all being together I just knew. From that day on the three of us have been inseparable, and Rachel and I are getting married on May 18th of this year.

Casey and Rachels wedding was special to me for many reasons. This would be my first courthouse wedding but mainly because I so identified with their story. My hubby and I were introduced way back when and through our ins and outs we found each other again.

The Willows court house is really quite quaint. It has been kept well over the years and is classic in its design and decor. The Judge was truly a delight with a jovial spirit and contagious smile. Their ceremony was meaningful and true to their union. Their son was the perfect gentlemen as he stood with them forging a new family through the bonds of matrimony.

Rachel brought these very cute signs and banners to use to make their courthouse nuptials unique and personal. all those in attendance stopped to let me capture them as they ventured out to a new married life together.

Rachels eye for detail was apparent through every detail of their day. She had this dress custom made with exquisite lace. Her jewelry was custom made and rounded out the delicate and feminine look so perfectly.

These two we are blast to work with and their whole family was friendly and easy to get along with. Anyone could tell they were in love and we so happy to make their commitment to each other complete. Their love story is continuing today as they are currently expecting a little girl in a few weeks from now. We hope them all the best with their new bundle of joy and their whole life together and thanks for allowing me to be a part of your very special day.

Kaity and Derek's Ranch Wedding April 28, 2012

I just knew Kaity and Derek's wedding would be special when I visited the site of their future wedding the previous fall to shoot their engagement setting. Derek's parents ranch in Capay, CA was picture perfect with rolling hills, wide open fields and stunning oak trees surrounding their home. Kaity thought we might have a hard time cajoling Derek into having fun with this pics but we had a blast! I knew the wedding would go off with out a hitch and here is the proof...

Kaity's stunning bridesmaids had a good time with these pics. It is so great to work with such fun and adventerous bridal parties. The really exciting part of shooting this group was that two out of the four were slotted for their wedding to be shot by us at future dates. Dusti, the blonde on the far left, will have her blog post coming up as her wedding was in September 2012. Brittany, far right, will be this year and we cant wait!

Kaity was such a radiant bride. Her friendly and down to earth personality never wavered in our time together. Her sense of humor is irresistible and made her so fun to be around. Luck for me I got to work with her again in September when I shot Dusti and Ryan's wedding, as she was a member of their bridal party.

Last year on our Facebook page: http//www.facebook.ehendersonphotography, We ran a "Most Romantic couple contest in which entrants were asked to submit their love story for a chance at winning $400 off their wedding package. Below is Kaity's story:

October 5th, 2011 will be a day we will never forget! Derek took me on a hunting trip to Wyoming with a purpose to kill my first buck. It was the 3rd day we were there and EVERYONE on the trip had filled their tags but me! I was starting to get a little discouraged. Derek, his Dad, one of our best friends, and myself took off to find me my buck! About 3 hours into the hunt we were driving to our next spot when we came across him in a draw! I got out of the pick up, set up my bipod and perfect shot, I got my first buck :-) Derek and I started walking down to him where I was aimlessly blabbering away to Derek about how much fun I have had and how much I had learned. When we reached what I call my "trophy buck" I was so excited I could barely talk! My adrenaline was through the roof!! I knelt down beside my buck when Derek told me to grab my camera from my pack behind me. I turned around, went through my pack, found my camera and when I turned around the most beautiful, perfect ring was sitting on the bucks eye guard! I looked up at Derek and he was on one knee and asked,"Will you marry me?" I remember looking at him and asking what is this? Are you kidding me? Is this really happening? Once I got all my answers :-) I started to cry and of course said YES! Lance Creek, Wyoming and that beautiful buck will always have a place in my heart :-)

Sarah and Anthony, Springtime blast, March 31, 2012

St. Dominicks Church in Willows, California was the setting for this beautiful and fun filled day. Sarah and Anthony are among the group of people that I have been adopted into over the last six years. It started with a senior portrait setting and grew to weddings, maternity and family shots for many different people related to or good friends with each other. It is so amazing to shot for these people because by now it feels like a family reunion!

The set up at the hall at St. Dominick's was so bright and airy. The tables featured homemade wine if I remember correctly. There were a lot of people at this event and everyone had an amazing time. This group was fun and adventurous and we let that show if our photos from the day.

The yellow they choose as their color was so stunning in contrast to the bright blue skies. It was very windy and we had a few small sprinkling spells but overall it was a beautiful mild spring day. A little breeze didn't deter us. We just figured out how to use it to our advantage.

Sarah and Anthony were so sweet and easy to work with. Their kind hearts and easy going spirit made the day a breeze! (pun intended!) Thanks to them both as well as the whole extended family for their kindness and for keeping us busy and loving it!

Spring Splender with Rachel and Stephen, March 10, 2012

Nestled in the farmland surrounding Orland California is a charming venue I've had the pleasure of shooting at several times.  On March 10, 2012 a girl and a boy, young and so in love, started their lives together as husband and wife there.

As the first wedding of my season, I was already very excited for this wedding. They decided to do a "No Peak" visit before the ceremony. It was intense! Rachel's mom and bridesmaids assisted with the set up and were there with me witnessing their last interaction before their I do's. So romantic!

The adore their pup who was there for the whole event and behaved amazingly well.

Their love story started in her chair at work as a Cosmotologist. Their engagement setting at the campus of California State University Chico and Bidwell Mansion in clouded some shots in her very cool cutting chair. Their creativity and edge of the envelope style allowed them to bring together all the elements that really personified who they were as a couple and proudly displayed their history as a couple.
Rachel was a beautiful bride who's gorgeous dark locks and radiant skin made her portraits a breeze. The Verboom Ranch has unlimited backdrops from Sprawling lawns to the restores school house building. Some of my favorite features include the very red porch swing and brick wall behind the primary residence.

This boot shot was on their "must have" collage of fun shots. We make photo collages from the photos that brides either save on their Pinterest boards or get to me via e-mail so we can try to capture their style and the feel they are looking for.

Their bridal party and support team helped make their day so amazing. They are one lucky couple who we at E. Henderson Photography wish them all the happiness life can bring.

Back in the saddle folks!

After graduating from California State university, Chico last May of 2018 with my BA in Anthropology, we are back at it! We have been doing ...
